New Year, New Habits

Every year at this time people make resolutions so that they can become a better person. Whether physically, emotionally or mentally everyone wants to become a better version of themselves in he year and set unrealistic resolutions for themselves. Along with these unrealistic goals, most people give up trying to achieve them within the first month of the new year.

I am not suggesting to be the same person you are now. Everyone should always try to be the best person they possibly can but try doing it in smaller amounts of time at a less intense rate.

For this new year a resolution of mine would be, to be a healthier person. I know, I know its a cliché but its true! So to make this an easier task to take on over this next year, starting the first week of January (January 4th) I will not eat fast food for the rest of the month. This is going to be extremely difficult because I like eating fast food. I'm not saying I eat fast food everyday but when I do I enjoy it. So seeing what happens over these next couple of weeks will be interesting.

Another thing I want to do is become more studious. These past few months have been very stressful with school. I've been getting lots of assignments, and with each assignment my motivation weakens! So for these next couple of days I'm going to make things interesting...In my room I have a lot of empty wall space. on one of the spaces I will be putting a tear pad on it. So with each assignment I get, I will write it on the pad and cross it off when I've completed it. Checklists usually work well, and knowing that I've completed an assignment should give me the satisfaction I need!

In my previous post I also mentioned that I want to be true to myself. This is really self- explanatory but for those who need clarification, I want to say with any decision I am faced with now or in the future I want the answer to be what I have to say and not what other people want to hear.

That's all I can think up for now and those are all the little goals I aim to accomplish. Let me know what your resolutions are in the comments!

This will be the last post of 2014

Facing Fears

Hello friends of the internet, many of us have been spending this last week with family and loving friends. As it was Christmas this past Thursday.

For Christmas I received the book Girl Online, a novel that was written by a British Youtuber Zoe Sugg aka Zoella. I enjoyed the book, I am an avid book reader and in my humble opinion the book was well written.

I love the book for many reasons. One: I relate to the main character so well. She is a teenager in 11th grade (or in Year Eleven as the Brits say) and she has many embarrassing moments. Many of us think that we are the only ones that are super clumsy and make of fool out of ourselves but we're not. We all go through the same stuff, its a matter of letting it take us down or not. Two: She has a blog! I'm not to sure how many teens are out there blogging about life to random people on the internet but I don't imagine a huge amount (and if it is I will be highly impressed).

So the part of the book that I liked, especially was the part about facing fears. The main character, Penny, she has panic attacks. Not to give the story away but these panic attacks are not easy to deal with and they prevent her from doing certain things. Throughout the book she has many small victories after facing a fear-when she thinks she might have a panic attack.

One fear of mine is not being able to achieve my dream as a successful writer. I say writer because, journalism is a career option, not really my career goal. I have a strong passion for fashion design. I love the idea of designing something that I would wear and that I other people would wear. Something with my name on it. Picking out colors, fabrics, styles and combining all these things into a fashion line would be a dream come true but for now I blog about my life.

Although I say journalism is a career option, this doesn't necessarily mean I don't enjoy it. I've always loved writing since I was a little girl. I have piles and piles of notebooks from when I was little. Every since I found out how to write, I wrote poems, stories and anything I could think of into journals or an kind of notebook I found. To this day I continue to 'collect' them.

For this upcoming New Year I will have to seriously start thinking about colleges and deciding which ones to apply to. This is going to be stressful but one of my resolutions will be to stay true to myself.

Chasing my dream is not going to be easy and I'm pretty scared of what is to come but I won't know until I try, so facing my fear is better than letting doubt consume me and backing out.

I hope you guys enjoyed this post, a bit serious after the cheery holiday but it was on my mind. Do any of you have fears that you might want to face this coming New Year? Leave me a comment or tweet me!

Also check out the first chapter of Girl Online here.

Blogmas: Day Twenty-one

This season is especially known for the immense generosity and kindness that people show towards one another. I think that not just this time of yet but all year 'round, people should think of the less fortunate and help them. An easy and inexpensive way to do this is to make toiletry bags to give to the homeless. Filling a plastic ziplock bag with the items show above, is very simple and a quick way to help someone in need. Making a bunch of these and donating them to your local shelter is great!

If you are able to bring joy to someone this season do it! What's stopping you?

Blogmas: Day Fifteen

As Christmas and other holidays approach, many teachers love to give big projects and assignments over the break. Unfortunately in my case many teachers decide that its best to give us all the assignments before break, you may be wondering what I'm complaining about but if all of my teachers give me an assignment before break I only have a few days to compete everything. This, for the highly procrastinated student, equals a lot of stress. I am trying to balance all of this and in the end I know I will appreciate the stress free break like it should be.

Happy Monday!

Blogmas: Day Eleven & Twelve

It's about that time when people ask what you want for Christmas and I don't know about you but I generally forget what I want and tell them I will give them an answer. I've learned in situations like this, it's great to go to the store when you want things or see something you like and take a picture and make a photo album of things that you potentially want for Christmas. This is also great for online shopping too, just take a screen shot of what your looking at. So next time you see something you like just snap a picture and send it to someone who's thinking of buying you something for Christmas.

Happy Friday!

Blogmas: Day Ten

So I live on the east coast of the United States, and unlike some parts of my country we go through seasons. The weather does not stay 85 degrees all year 'round. So with that said, the weather may go through seasons, I believe people have seasons as well, and this season I have been experiencing a sweet tooth! But this is not unusual for me, I could eat sweets all the time if I was allowed. The unusual part is that the specific kind of dessert I have been craving is.....ice cream! Now you can understand why the relevance of how the weather is where I live. It is currently 35 degrees outside with some chilly wind making it feel like it's 25 degrees. Although it is certifiably cold and a normal person would crave a hot food or beverage to keep them toasty, I crave ice cream! I went and bought the Friendlys vanilla ice cream with peanut butter cups and ate about two scoops ( I say about because I have no shame in saying I eat the ice cream right out of the carton). I may or may not have a problem but I enjoyed my ice cream nonetheless.

Hope you do what makes you happy!

Blogmas: Day Eight & Nine

During this time of year I usually stay inside and don't venture off and explore but this year I want to create a bucket list of something's to do during December and over winter break.
CAROLING
I am not saying that I am the best singer but I do love Christmas songs. I think getting a couple of my friends and going around caroling in my town square would be cool to do.
CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING
Most towns have a Christmas tree lighting in their town square. I may have missed the one in my town but going to see it lit up on a winter's night is a good equivalent to me.
ICE SKATING
To be quite honest I have never been roller-skating and I am not sure if there is a skating rink where I live but I would love to try it out (probably would end up being an epic fail but who knows).
BUILDING AN IGLOO
Ever year me and my sister build a snowman or a wall of snow and have snowball fights but this year I want to take on the challenge of building an igloo! Depending on the amount of snow that we get, I think we can pull it off but I should probably get the right gear to take on such a large and difficult task.
SECRET SANTA
On my dad's side of the family we usually do Secret Santa among all of the grandchildren. We all put our names in and Christmas day we give each other gifts, this year we forgot to pick names so the plan is to get a "general" gift and exchange gifts on Christmas day. Let's see how that goes....
What new things do you want to try this season?

Blogmas: Day Seven

The first week of December has already passed and if you haven't already you should probably have your Christmas tree up already. In my family we have an artificial, tree, not the most traditional but it does have its pros and cons. The pros are that we don't have to tend to it everyday or worry about pine needles. Some cons are that you don't have that fresh tree aroma filling up your house or the fun of going to the tree lot and picking one out. Every year we drag out tree from the basement and assemble it, not the most thrilling, compared to searching for the perfect tree at a lot. Aside from that decorating the tree is the other half of the fun! My mom is likes having a theme for the tree each year. One year it was burgundy and bronze this year it's gold with white/silver accents. We have gold glass bell ornaments with gold bows and white lights. We also have silver snowflakes on our tree as well as round gold ornaments. I am more of a colorful person, I love homemade ornaments and colorful lights with a real tree, that is my kind of Christmas tree.

Happy Decorating!

Blogmas: Day Six

As it is starting to near towards Christmas, it only seems right to start Christmas shopping and finding gifts for your loved ones. Today I had the challenge of finding out what to get for my parents and sister. Living with them, gives me an idea of what they like and don't like. When I went to the store(s) today and I was overwhelmed with so many possible options to choose from, so many possible gifts to give. When going into a store there are advertised "gifts" for Christmas like; perfume & lotion sets for the ladies and ties or watches for the men. Then you have the actually items of the store, having all these options it was soon clear I was going to have some trouble choosing gifts. I conjured up a plan in my head to help me narrow down what to get them. As I was walking through the store I put any possible gift into my cart, now you may be saying that this is crazy and you will end up buying all the stuff any way but since I was on a budget it works out if you follow all the steps. So as I was walking through the store I saw something for my mom, I put it in the cart. Something for dad? In the cart it went. Something for sis, in the cart. after about an hour I stopped in an empty part of the store and looked through what I had in my cart. I then started deciding between the good gifts, the stuff I actually wanted for myself and the impulse buys (these usually are the things you don't really want or need but you just have to have it). After doing this for about 15 minutes I put the reject items back and headed to checkout. This system helped to me to pick out really nice gifts as opposed to buying something and not really putting thought into it.

CHRISTMAS SHOPPING TIPS
  • PUT potential gifts in your cart
  • SORT out he things you've collected
  • DECIDE on what you want to buy as the gift
I am not saying its full-proof but it works.

Blogmas: Day Five

Christmas season is officially upon us (after five days it is set in stone, obviously) and getting into the Christmas spirit couldn't be easier than listening to Christmas music. That feeling that you get when get when you connect completely to the lyrics of a song is how I feel with a Christmas song. Christmas songs just get me in a happy mood and since music has evolved there are many different genres of Christmas songs.

Here are my top 10:
  1. I'm dreaming of a White Christmas
  2. It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year
  3. Carol of the Bells
  4. The Nutcracker
  5. All I want for Christmas is You
  6. Let It Snow
  7. Jingle Bell Rock
  8. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
  9. Greatest time of Year
  10. Silent Night
Hope you get to checkout some of these songs and tell me your favorites.

Blogmas: Day Four

For this holiday many of us are trying to find the perfect gift for our friend or family member and sometimes this can be a challenge. Even knowing a person very well, being over whelmed with so many options to choose from can be difficult to pick the right one. I have some simple ideas to help guide you to the perfect gift for your loved one this holiday.

Some bullet point for the ultimate gift are:
  •  Keep it simple, if you don't know what to get someone don't go over board and buy them everything you think they might like but get them something that you think would best suit them. Also remember that it's a gift, although its a cliché it really is the thought that counts.
  • As a continuation from my previous statement, don't just get any thing and wrap it up, especially not anything that is tacky or cheap many of us understand a budget but buying something that is useless and not meaningful is not worth buying or giving.
  • If you are at a loss of what to give, give back a memory. I know that sentimental gifts may be cheesy but who says they don't make great gifts? Having a symbol of a great trip and remembering all the good times or a card with the words to an inside joke is a perfect gift.
  • If you are wiling to go the extra mile and still want too give them a gift I usually o for the general stuff like beauty product gift for girls and some type of electronic gift for a boy. With a general present like this I would write something meaningful in the card to accompany a gift.
Hope these tips gave you some ideas on what to buy/make for someone for Christmas!

Blogmas: Day Three

Third day of December and by now you should have Christmas spirit! Decorating your room is an easy way to celebrate the holiday! Here are some easy ideas to will make your room look more festive.

BANNER
If you have construction paper, glue, hole punch, ribbon and some tape this DIY is very simple. All you have to do is cut equal sized prices of construction paper, cut out the letters of the word/phrase, glue it, punch the holes, weave through ribbon and done!

CHRISTMAS TREE
This is not the simplistic thing to make at first but once you get the hang of it it's really easy. All you really need is paper and siccors. Click the link on a tutorial of how to do this: http://krokotak.com/2013/11/fold-a-fir-tree/

CANDLES
Although these are not technically a decoration, the packaging on most holiday candles is festive. Two candles that I have my room smelling of Christmas and wonderful things are Pepermint bark and Gingerbread. These two candles smell amazing!

GARLAND
Making your own festive decorations is fun and this one particularly interesting because you get to be creative. Using some Command hooks, I hung up a garland that I made with some ornaments that I had leftover from the tree. I used home made ornaments and glittery ones from the store. It's fun to mix and match and see how it turns out.

Hope you decorate your room to get in the Christmas spirit! 22 more days to go!

Blogmas: Day Two

The Christmas season is here! The one thing I love doing around this holiday is baking and eating snacks ( to tell the truth I love eating snacks any time of the year). I have a sweet tooth and my number one treat is chocolate, one thing that all these treats have in common.

PEANUT BUTTER BLOSSOMS
This snack is very delicious, the peanut butter and chocolate really compliment each other. I recommend eating them while they are warm! These cookies only take about 15 minutes to bake and I usually use a pre-made dough or mix. This goes great with a cold glass of milk.

PRETZEL, KISS and M&M
This is the easiest thing that the person with "no cooking skills" could do (also known as me). All you need to do is lay out some pretzels, put some chocolate on top. Place in an oven at 350 degrees for about 1 min until the chocolate is soft but not completely liquefied. Take an M&M and put it in the middle. Since the chocolate is till warm I recommend outing them in the freezer for about three minutes and the you're done!

HOT CHOCOLATE
I am a chocolate lover and my absolute favorite drink is hot chocolate. Ever since I was little my mom would always put a teaspoon of cinnamon in my drink and I love the way it tastes. My current mixture of hot chocolate is Maxwell house's Mocha Latte (contains caffeine), a tablespoon of sugar and a dash of cinnamon.

*Disclaimer: I don't own any of these pictures

Let me know if you tried any of these snacks! 23 more days to go!

Blogmas: Day One

Have been really busy with school the last couple of months but I'm back on the blog! I've decided to celebrate everyday possible day of my favorite holiday on the blog, so I thought I would do Blogmas! This would be an adaption of Vlogmas, many Youtubers vlog everyday up until Christmas and post it on the internet. In place of a video I would write a blog post about it! This is a huge commitment and I am challenging myself to do it. I have a lot of things planned, so keep your eyes peeled!

After the long intro, since November first I have been watching Christmas movies on the Hallmark channel, and I haven't stopped since! Now starting today on ABCFamily and the Hallmark channel is countdown to Christmas! Everyday they have a set list of movies for your entertainment and enjoyment and  highly recommend tuning in if you are as Christmas obsessed as me!

Hope you guys are having a wonderful holiday! 24 more days to go!

Part One: Homework

Here is another short but sweet Road to College post...

So, lately I have found that after being in school for a month I already have gotten a steady routine and a substantial amount of homework. BUT being a college-prep student takes it's toll on you. The homework I receive is any where from 1 1/2 to 2 hours. This is only when I have a few assignments from my classes, if I have homework from all of my classes I can receive 3 to 5 hours of homework. So writing this blog may be challenging at times but its something fun I get to do when I'm not drowning in homework.

Now something most people may or may not know about the general population of IB students is that sometimes we don't get all our homework in on time or we simply wait until the last minute to do something. Procrastination is what kills the work ethic of many IB students, at least where I live. Many of us have the mentality of thinking that we will "have time to study for the IB quiz later" or thinking that we can "write the 750 word essay tomorrow" but this is the worst way to think about things! Especially since us IB kids know there will be more homework the next day. Many people expect us to be the most efficient workers but I see people everyday copying someone's homework or studying a period before the test.

Some may think this is horrible but we see it as a way to survive. Now I am trying to become a good student and refine my work skills but breaking free from a vicious cycle like this is harder than you may think. I truly believe if you are doing what you need to be doing you shouldn't have to take the short cuts because everything should fall into place.

Being Yourself

So the social trials of being a teenager can sometimes be.... overrated.

The constant need to compare yourself to others can sometimes be a chore. I have been recently been contemplating this and I have just decided to stop. It's so ridiculous that we feel the need to act like someone else! One of my favorite quotes it that "Just be yourself because everyone else is taken". This pretty much is my mantra for life, being yourself is the best person you can be. I've also learned its better to emotionally invest yourself into people who will care as much as you do. Someone who doesn't like you for whatever reason isn't worth your time.
So aside from the negative things that come from this, there are also positive things. I have found by being myself I have been able to surround myself by wonderful people and make wonderful friends. Just by being myself I have developed so many friendships & strengthened old ones.

Words From the Heart

I want to talk about what I believe in. I am a Christian, I believe that our religion is about having a personal relationship with Christ. Talking about this is not to slander other people’s beliefs or religions, I just want to express my own opinion.

I feel that being a Christian means our goal is to live like he was, perfect. Now we are obviously human and cannot achieve perfection, our free will allows us to mess up and learn from our mistakes. But the mere goal of trying to achieve perfection and to be like Christ is why I love being a Christian. Not to say I’m better than any other person but to be able to have a goal in life and try as hard as humanly possible to achieve that. Like I said before we are all human and will make mistakes so I often refer to bible verses or quotes to have daily reminders of this goal.
Here are a few of my favorites…..

To explain the picture above, I believe sometimes wanting something isn’t enough, believing in it and having faith can determine the outcome.

A cool idea to keep yourself in a positive attitude would be to print these pictures out and put them on a cork board or in a frame or on the wall
A quick disclaimer is that I DO NOT own any of these photos. These are just some of my favorite ones that I have. You can check out these photos and more on my Quotes Pinterest board here.
I hope you all enjoyed these little snippets of verses that I believe have a positive outlook about life.

The Road To College

Since I am in my junior year most of what I'm doing is going to set me up for college. For those of you who aren't as informed, when applying for college you must submit a transcript of your highschool which basically means that colleges get to stalk you & find out what you've been doing for the past two years. Since this is year one of college stalking I thought it would be a great idea to write about my journey of getting to college. Over the next two years every-other Thursday I will update you on what I've been doing to prepare for college.

So far this year I have managed to enroll myself into 5 college prep classes this school year. These classes include alot of homework (I'm talking 2 hours minimum to complete everything) and time management skills. I've also rejoined and signed up for clubs, being involved in your school shows colleges you are a well rounded student, the more involved the better! I'm currently applying to be a part of the Chapter of National Honors Society at my school, to get an invitation you must have a GPA of at least 3.0. With this achievement I'm glad my hard work is somewhat paying off.

I'm interested to see what my future holds.

On A Mission

I don’t think I’ve fully explained why I started this blog. I love to write and I love fashion with my two passions combined I found the perfect career for me, to be a fashion journalist! This career has all the elements that I live for. I even remember how I got started on this journey….

Now when I was little people always asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up and I said things like a doctor or a teacher, but I was just saying things that I’ve heard I didn’t exactly find my niche. When I was I had a little (okay HUGE) obsession with Bratz dolls & movies. The re-occurring theme of “a passion for fashion” inspired me! I just couldn’t stop thinking of all the possibilities that came out of fashion. One time in 3rd grade I remember I was bored in class and started drawing out fits on paper, I cut them out and gave them to my friends as a mock of my fashion line. Later other kids told me they wanted some to and I cut some more out and “sold” my line after school. This immediately sparked my interest and then I had a true answer to the question & my passion for fashion grew. I remember when my birthdays came around I would always ask for fashion related things like; sketchbooks, art supplies, sewing machine, sewing tools, anything I could get my hands on.
But on the other side of things, ever since I was little I’ve always liked to write. Since I learned to write I’ve written things in notebooks and have collected those notebooks to this day, kind of like Harriet The Spy writing everything she’s ever observed into notebooks. First it started at home learning how to write my name then as I went to school my passion for writing progressed. I wrote in journals just talking about my everyday life. In other notebooks I wrote stories and poems. At one point in 5th grade I co-wrote book with my friend (sadly we cannot recover itL) but this love for putting my own words down on paper makes me feel like I have a voice and since I have a strong passion for writing one day I would like to publish a book about my story.
As you can see my passions for fashion and writing are equally strong and becoming a fashion journalist would help me to live both of passions. With this career path in mind I decided to start this blog so I could get familiar with writing my own content and publishing it for other eyes to read besides my own.
I hope this blog was insightful and you got learn more about me

Hairstyles For School

By now we should be in our routine of school and this consists of getting up early in the morning and try to control our crazy hair. I have come up with some easy tips and hair styles that may help you with getting ready and making it a bit easier.
Something very simple that works with any hairstyle is a side braid. Now this isn't the actual hairstyle this is a hairstyle that can help you achieve wavy/crimped hair. I usually put my hair in a braid before I got to sleep at night. I recommend making a very tight braid to help your hair create a wavy effect.

After waking up I usually take out the braid and my hair is wavy, but I do have naturally curly hair so my hair usually doesn't need any products to help maintain the waviness.

But if you have naturally straight hair before taking out the braid I would use a flat iron over the braid and then take it out. Using the flat iron over will have an added effect on your hair to ensure its waviness.

One hairstyle that I think works on most hair types is the braided bun (if you have thick hair you may have to modify the style as a half up-half down, just follow all the steps but just half f your head). This should take less than five minutes depending on the length and thickness of your hair.

I'm no claiming this is easy but if you have extra time in the morning you might want to try out this very unique hairstyle. If you want to earn how to do this hairstyle click above or here.

I hope this was helpful and eases your hair routine in the morning.

Labor Day Plans

Labor day weekend is approaching fast! I have a few ideas to soak in the last days of summer and to keep the mind distracted from school. This weekend should be embraced, this is the opportunity to have some relaxation & fun before school. My school gave me this Friday through next Monday off for labor day & every second will be enjoyed.
~An idea for this weekend is to have one last taste of summer before school really starts is to enjoy the pool! Where I live the weather actually changes, so the pool is not open all year long. With this past winter being extra-long all this summer I've appreciated the heat and will soak up the sun over this weekend. I would suggest going with friends and family, have a genuine good time and have a moment to yourself, no need to post to instagram or tweet.

~Want a relaxing weekend? Try going to the park and taking a walk. If you don't want to do that try walking around your neighborhood. The summer breeze is the perfect weather for a walk. When I walk I get to think and organize my life, take a breather from the daily responsibilities. To add on to the relaxation is to just sit outside or lay out on the grass and look into the sky (very cheesy but try it, you can be surprised).

~Find a local place to hang out! Around my city there are a lot of places near the town square/downtown area. When you look around your area there are many places that are locally owned! Look around and see what you can find! I like going to a local café in my downtown area that has great milkshakes.
Hopefully this gave you some ideas for what to do this weekend! Also shout out to my friend who REALLY wanted me to do this, you can follow her here.

Freshman Advice

Anyone starting high school may be nervous, and you have the right to be! You are about to enter a whole different environment. High school has different teachers and different students with the added uncertainty of not being familiar with anything. Now my tips may vary depending on your school and where you live.

**TIPS**

~So for your freshman year is the most important academic year of your life. This year will determine your GPA for the rest of your high school career. If your wondering what a GPA is, it's your grade-point-average, the higher your GPA the better off you are so don't slack off!
~One thing that really helped me freshman year was to make a locker schedule to switch out supplies and lighten my backpack.
~Try exploring all possible ways of going to class, don't be accustomed to only one way & if you're not sure ask around.
~ Don't get stuck in hallway traffic! In my school its always a good idea to avoid the hallways that are near the lunchroom.
~Always have a pencil, golden rule!
~Depending on your school, homeroom is filled with the same people for all four years so getting used to the people in homeroom is best :)

Something's that I've learned from being in high school is that it was pretty easy to make friends. I came from a different middle school than most of my classmates, it was pretty much a fresh start for me but all of us were nervous on the first day so you'll find someone in your same situation. Plus high school has a wonderful social outlet called clubs, this is the easiest and most effective way to make new friends. Freshman year I joined a few clubs and got to know a lot more people. Something else I discovered about high school is that it's okay to ask questions. This may seem like a no-brainer but I was intimidated by everyone around me and thought I was dumb if I asked a question. This is the contrary to what I thought, many teachers are prepared and willing to help you. Lastly I've learned time management skills! My skills have been perfected year after, I know how to balance homework, clubs, concerts (I'm in two choirs in school) and church.
High school is what you make it and slacking off won't help you, being the best student you can be is the best road to success.

Ideas for School Lunch

If you read my last blog post (click here), I pack my own school lunch. The lunches provided by my school have no taste whatsoever & I am a picky eater as well so the two combined don't mix. So to all of my fellow lunch packers I wanted to share some healthier ways to pack lunch because let's face it if we really wanted to we could pack a whole bunch of junk-food in our bags and not care, right?

Being healthy is always the goal that someone wants to achieve and here is a way you can approach this goal. An easy yet effective on like this(pictured above) is perfect! The veggie & dip is a great way to fill you up, you can pick and choose your favorite veggies and a dip with amazing flavor! Instead of a soda choose flavored or vitamin water. For a snack don't sacrifice your chips just choose a healthier version like these popped chips.

So on a personal level I'm not really the "healthiest person" and feel like it's too ambitious to try the first option so for the past year I've substituted things in my diet to ease this process. For example when I make sandwhichs instead of using white bread I use honey wheat bread. I prefer honey instead of whole wheat because the honey adds a sweet taste as opposed to whole which has a very bland taste. As you may have gussed I have a sweet tooth and this may the biggest no-no when trying to become healthy but I have found a resolution. I discovered Nature Valley granola bars, their Sweet&Salt Dark chocolate, peanut and almond flavor tastes just like a snickers bar! This healthier snickers bar has less calories, a subtle salty contrast with the bitter dark chocolate & sweet sugary coating and added texture from the almonds. Lastly the most obvious substitution is water instead of a sugary juice.

I hope these two ideas made you look at eating lunch in a whole new way!

What's in my backpack?

With all these posts on my blog about school supplies & getting motivated, I thought why not share what I have in my backpack. With less than a week until school starts I have gotten all of my school supplies together and organized.

Entering my Junior year of high school I will be taking on a lot of college prep classes, a combination of  AP (advanced placement) and IB (international baccalaureate). This requires hours of homework & studying and rigorous classwork and assignments. Also if you are under any assumption that I must be a super genius or something, that is far from the truth. I just take on challenges that I know I can handle and have the right time management skills to do so. Acknowledging that I will have this amount of work I want my backpack to survive the whole school year instead of getting through the first few weeks.

So this year (since I'm a working girl now) I decided to invest in a good quality backpack. This year I purchased the "Big Student" Jansport backpack from Kohl's. The Jansport brand uses fairly thick material and heavy-duty zippers, in my opinion it is a great quality backpack. Compared to my $15 backpack from last year that ripped within the first month of school, this backpack is way better. Although the price may seem a bit much ($62) Kohl's does have sales ($44), when I purchased my bookbag I had a 15% off coupon (on top of the in-store sale price) with the final price of $40 with tax.

Now to start off with the bigger section of the bookbag, where he straps are, I keep all of the major school supplies (pictured below) here. I have two five subject notebooks that are really colorful. I also have my DIY notebook and matching binder, a monochromatic composition notebook with a pink folder (this is one thing I need more of) and finally the book that was assigned as a summer project for English class.

In the section in front of that is where I keep my lunch. I pack for two reasons 1. I don't like school lunch 2. I don't have a lunch period. So in this compartment I usually will keep my lunch bag and/or my lunch containers.
Next is this smaller section where I typically keep personal things. Like my school ID (not shown for safety reasons), Mini umbrella, Tissues, Hand sanitizer wipes and some lip products. I would also keep feminine products around "that time of the month".
This section is a bit bigger than the previous one and has various places to put pencils/pens and your phone. In here I have 4 highlighters in the built in pockets and a black pen. In the larger built in pocket I have some index cards and post-it notes, you never can be too prepared. Also I have my planner and pencil case (that I made) along with my ruler/hole punch.
Lastly is the very front pocket where I would have my keys, my school issued planner and my ID (I would mostly likely throughout the year have my ID in this pocket because of easy access as opposed to the other section in my backpack).
And that is what's in my backpack! I hope you got to learn a little more about me :)
